Kissena Park for parking

The New York City Parks Department granted a temporary, 3-year lease to the New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens to make part of the Kissena Park Corridor in Flushing a parking lot during a construction project. There was no public forum nor an environmental study in which to discuss this issue prior to clearing the parkland. The Kissena Park Civic Association (KPCA), under Beverly McDermott (President), was extremely disturbed by this development and has been working to alert the media and government. Furthermore, the KPCA is working toward the future -- garnering funds and plans for restoration.

The New York Times published a report on Kissena Park on Sunday, January 29, 2006. Please view No splendor in this grass by John Freeman Gill.
